EBCC 2024 | Unequal access to contralateral mastectomy for breast cancer patients in the UK

Shelley Potter, MBChB, PhD, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK, highlights the inequity of access to contralateral mastectomy across the UK. The FLAME study conducted a statistical analysis of the number of patients undergoing a single mastectomy who elected to have a contralateral mastectomy. Some regions of the UK perform contralateral mastectomies at a significantly higher rate than others, demonstrating unequal access to the procedure. This interview took place at the 14th European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC) in Milan, Italy.
