WCLC 2023 | The challenges of implementing lung cancer screening in Africa

Lauren Pretorius, Campaigning for Cancer, Randburg, South Africa, discusses the challenges of implementing lung cancer screening in Africa. Primary difficulties include the cost-effectiveness of the screening programme, resources, and the impact on Africa’s healthcare systems. Lung cancer screening may also be impacted by healthcare system inequity and cultural myths surrounding cancer. Systemic and individual perspectives must additionally be examined in order to implement lung cancer screening effectively. This interview took place at the 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Singapore, Singapore.
