Heinz-Josef Lenz, MD, FACP, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, highlighted recent data at the 2024 ASCO Meeting in Chicago, IL, from the KEYNOTE-177 trial (NCT02563002) evaluating pembrolizumab in microsatellite-instability–high (MSI-H) advanced colorectal cancer. The findings reaffirmed immunotherapy as the optimal first-line treatment. Furthermore, the Phase III CheckMate 8HW study (NCT04008030) comparing first-line nivolumab plus ipilimumab against chemotherapy for patients with MSI-H/dMMR metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) demonstrated that the combination of nivolumab and ipilimumab is a highly promising first-line treatment. Impressive hazard ratios for both first-line treatment and PFS2 data underscore the potential benefits for patients with newly diagnosed metastatic disease who are mismatch repair deficient. his interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
