ASCO 2024 | Assessing the link between TILs and pCR in the NSABP B-41 trial

Ilana Schlam, MD, Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA, discusses findings from an analysis investigating the association between tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and pathological complete response (pCR) in pretreated patients with HER2-positive breast cancer in the Phase III NSABP B-41 trial (NCT00486668). While overall TIL presence didn’t correlate with pCR, high TILs with trastuzumab or trastuzumab plus lapatinib showed increased pCR rates compared to lapatinib alone. The impact of TILs varied by estrogen receptor status, suggesting potential for tailored treatment strategies. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
