SABCS 2022 | Results from a pilot study exploring cardiovascular risk evaluation for breast cancer survivors

Ilana Schlam, MD, Tufts Medical Center, Boston, MA, shares the results of a pilot investigating the feasibility of performing cardiovascular risk evaluation for breast cancer survivors. In a cohort of 60 patients, 74% were Black/African American, 14% were White and 95% Non-Hispanic. 48% of the patient cohort were found to have metabolic syndrome defined as the presence of 3 out of 5 cardiovascular risk factors waist circumference, hypertension, low HDL, high triglycerides, insulin resistance. Although all patients had an ejection fraction above 55%, 14% had an abnormal global longitudinal strain. This interview took place at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) 2022 in San Antonio, TX.
