Pan-Chyr Yang, MD, PhD, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, highlights the critical importance of low-dose CT (LDCT) screening in reducing lung cancer mortality. He notes that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Eastern Asia, affecting both men and women, with a significant number of cases in nonsmokers. Prof. Yang emphasizes the need for LDCT screening, especially for high-risk nonsmokers, to detect lung cancer at an early, more treatable stage. He discusses sharing successful screening strategies across Eastern Asian countries and adapting these approaches to Western populations where nonsmoking lung cancer is also on the rise, advocating for targeted screening programs for high-risk individuals with a family history of lung cancer. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
