ESMO 2024 | TACITO: modifying the fecal microbiota in mRCC to enhance checkpoint inhibition

Camillo Porta, MD, A. Moro University of Bari, Bari, Italy, comments on preliminary findings from the Phase II TACITO trial (NCT04758507) of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) receiving pembrolizumab and axitinib. FMT significantly increased the 1-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate and improved overall response rate. Further questions additionally remain in terms of the feasibility of bacterial supplements, which are more practical than FMT. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
