WCLC 2024 | Elucidating the genetic landscape of lung cancer in female never-smokers

Sitapriya Moorthi, PhD, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Seattle, WA, discusses the genetic landscape of lung cancer in never-smoker women, focusing on findings from the Women’s Health Initiative study. Genomic profiling revealed a significant enrichment of EGFR insertion–deletion mutations in never-smokers, particularly in younger women under 50, while heavy smokers displayed more KRAS G12C mutations. The study highlights distinct mutational patterns, offering insights into targeted therapies for lung cancer in this unique population. This interview took place at the 2024 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in San Diego, CA.
