ESMO 2024 | GORTEC 2017-01 REACH: avelumab, cetuximab, and radiotherapy in LA-SCCHN

Makoto Tahara, MD, PhD, National Cancer Center Hospital East, Kashiwa, Japan, comment on the Phase III GORTEC 2017-01 REACH trial (NCT02999087), which compared avelumab, cetuximab with radiotherapy against standard-of-care (SOC) treatments in locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (LA-SCCHN). In cisplatin-unfit patients, the combination improved progression-free survival (PFS) and reduced distant metastasis rates but did not enhance overall survival (OS). This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
