Vernon Sondak, MD, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL, discusses the unique challenges of managing pediatric melanoma, including the use of molecular testing to guide diagnosis and treatment. Although the MERLIN_001 trial (NCT04759781) applies only to adults, similar gene expression profiling principles are helping distinguish high- and low-risk pediatric cases. Differentiating melanoma from Spitz tumors and multidisciplinary care involving pediatric and melanoma specialists is critical for pediatric patients. This interview took place at the 21st International Congress of the Society for Melanoma Research (SMR) in New Orleans, LA.
