ESMO 2024 | Key biomarkers for advanced gastric cancer therapy decision-making

Nicola Fazio, MD, PhD, Istituto Europeo di Oncologia, Milan, Italy, discusses key biomarkers essential for therapeutic decision-making in advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma. HER2 and PD-L1 are primary markers influencing treatment pathways, where HER2-positive cases may benefit from chemotherapy with trastuzumab and pembrolizumab, as shown in the KEYNOTE-811 study (NCT03615326). Emerging biomarkers like claudin 18.2 and MMR/MSI are also highlighted for their prognostic value, with promising data from the SPOTLIGHT (NCT04186845) and GLOW (NCT03653507) trials supporting zolbetuximab for claudin 18.2-positive cases. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
