ESMO 2024 | Enhancing immunotherapy response in luminal B breast cancer with radiotherapy

Alex De Caluwe, MD, Jules Bordet Institute, Brussels, Belgium, describes the Phase II Neo-CheckRay trial (NCT03875573), which investigates radiation therapy to improve immunotherapy responses in luminal B breast cancer, a subtype with low immune infiltration. By combining radiotherapy with immunotherapy and chemotherapy, the trial aims to convert “cold” tumors into “hot” tumors, potentially increasing immune response and response rates at surgery. This randomized study seeks to demonstrate that this innovative combination therapy can provide long-term benefits for patients by enhancing treatment efficacy. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
