SABCS 2024 | Addressing barriers to clinical trial participation among underserved minority patients

Inimfon Jackson, MD, PhD, MPH, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, gives an overview of a survey conducted among underserved patients with cancer to identify barriers and facilitators of clinical trial participation. Key barriers included out-of-pocket costs and frequent testing, while facilitators included language assistance and financial support. Most patients valued their physician’s opinion and expressed willingness to join trials, particularly as first-line treatment, highlighting opportunities for targeted interventions. This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
