ESMO 2026 | Disease control and patient-reported quality of life in the ASCENT-04 trial

Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, comments on a post hoc analysis of the Phase III ASCENT-04 trial (NCT05382286), which examined how disease control relates to patient-reported functioning and quality of life in previously untreated, PD-L1-positive metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) treated with pembrolizumab plus sacituzumab govitecan or chemotherapy. Disease progression was associated with worsening quality of life, functioning, pain and fatigue, while objective response was linked to improvements in role functioning and pain. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
