PRIMO 2025 | Investigating treatment options for PD-1 refractory melanoma

Merrick Ross, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, highlights the need for effective therapies for PD-1 refractory melanoma, emphasizing that current standard treatment options are limited to single-agent anti-PD-1 therapy in the adjuvant setting. He notes that patients who fail PD-1 in the adjuvant setting may be eligible for clinical trials, but the current consensus is to add anti-CTLA-4 or LAG-3, rather than exploring combination therapies. Dr Ross stresses that identifying an effective therapy for PD-1 refractory patients is the most pressing unmet need, and that neoadjuvant combination studies could potentially address this gap. This interview took place at the PRIMO 2025 congress in Honolulu, HI.
