Adjuvant immunotherapies in RCC based on data from KEYNOTE-564

Maria Bourlon, MD, Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, Mexico City, Mexico discusses adjuvant immunotherapies in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). After a partial or radical nephrectomy, patients with intermediate to high risk are vulnerable to recurrence. Data from the KEYNOTE-564 (NCT03142334) study show an overall survival (OS) advantage in patients treated with pembrolizumab, with localised control, metastasectomy and no evidence of disease after 1 year. However, treatment options after progressing on pembrolizumab depends on when failure occurs; patients may benefit from tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), belzutifan or enrolment into specific clinical trials, but failure after a significant time period causes speculation around whether immunotherapy is still the best option. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
