Martin Heidinger, MD, University Hospital Basel, Basel, Switzerland, comments on whether bilateral mastectomy affects time to treatment in patients with breast cancer. A retrospective study found no significant differences in time to surgery or adjuvant therapy between unilateral and bilateral mastectomy groups. These findings suggest that while surgical laterality does not impact treatment timing, postoperative complications may influence the initiation of adjuvant therapy. This interview took place at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Consensus Meeting in Vienna, Austria.
