BCC 2025 | The future of AI in guiding radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer

Philip Poortmans, MD, PhD, University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium, describes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) guide more tailored radiotherapy decisions in breast cancer. Following on Lucerne Toolbox 2, which aims optimize axillary management, Toolbox 3 will attempt to incorporate AI to enhance prognostic and predictive outcomes, enabling better patient selection and personalized treatment planning. AI can also aid in defining precise target volumes and optimizing dose distribution, ultimately improving treatment efficacy. This interview took place at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Consensus Meeting in Vienna, Austria.
