Icro Meattini, MD, University of Florence, Florence, Italy, comments on the indication of radiation therapy in young patients with breast cancer, particularly those with BRCA carrier status. Dr Meattini highlights that radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery is not inferior to mastectomy in preventing ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence, with no impact on breast cancer-free interval and overall survival. However, BRCA carrier patients have a higher risk of developing contralateral breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of genetic testing and high-level counseling to guide treatment decisions. This interview took place at the ESTRO 2025 congress in Vienna, Austria.
