Muhammad Islam, MBBS, MD, MsPH, FACP, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, discusses the multifaceted decline in lung cancer mortality in the United States from 1994–2020. Male and female mortality has decreased over the years, with accelerated improvements after 2014 coinciding with drug approvals and reduced smoking prevalence. Additional contributors included cleaner air, healthcare reforms, and advances in precision medicine. Persistent socioeconomic disparities highlight the need for equitable access, prevention strategies, and fair distribution of personalized treatments.
