Roberto Salgado, MD, PhD, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia, discusses the formation and work of the International Immune Oncology Biomarker Working Group, commonly known as the TILs Working Group. Dr. Salgado, working alongside Shereen Loi and Carsten Denkert, established this international consortium of pathologists to advance immune biomarker research in breast cancer. The consortium developed studies applying artificial intelligence to large Phase III clinical trials, including the affinity trial and the TAILORx study (NCT00310180). Dr. Salgado emphasizes the importance of the community pathology perspective in this collaborative research approach to understanding the immune system’s role in breast cancer outcomes. This interview took place at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) 2025 Meeting in San Antonio, TX.
