ASCO GI 2026 | Disease biology and treatment challenges in appendix cancer

John Paul Shen, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses the unique features of appendix cancer, a relatively uncommon gastrointestinal tumor, highlighting its heterogeneity, with significant differences between high-grade and low-grade tumors. Low-grade tumors do not respond to traditional chemotherapy but have better survival rates, and appendix cancer tends to remain in the abdominal cavity, unlike colon cancer, which often metastasizes to the liver. This interview took place at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
