ASCO 2026 | Upper GI cancer highlights from ASCO 2026
Kohei Shitara, MD, National Cancer Center Hospital East, Kashiwa, Japan, discusses highlights from ASCO 2026 in upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Dr Shitara first highlights the ONO-4578-08 trial (NCT06256328), which compared first-line chemotherapy and nivolumab with or without the EP4 inhibitor ONO-4578 in patients with HER2-negative unresectable advanced or recurrent gastric/gastroesophageal junction cancer. In addition, Dr Shitara discusses the HERIZON-GEA-01 trial (NCT05152147) examining the HER2-directed bispecific antibody zanidatamab plus chemotherapy and tiselilizumab, zanidatamab plus chemotherapy, and trastuzumab plus chemotherapy in HER2-positive locally-advanced, unresectable, or metastatic gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
