Kyosuke Seguchi, MD, Kameda Medical Center, Kamogawa, Japan, discusses the further validation that needs to occur before CSF1R expression can be used as a prognostic biomarker in gastric cancer. The association between CSF1R expression and prognostic will need to be confirmed in a new independent cohort and the optimal cutoff of CSF1R expression will need to be evaluated. In addition, validation at the protein, single-cell and transcriptomic level will be needed in order to distinguish between CSF1R expression in tumor-associated macrophages and other cells including tumor-adjacent stromal components. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancer 2026 Congress in Munich, Germany.
