ESMO 2026 | PERSEE: Pembrolizumab ± chemotherapy in PD-L1 high advanced NSCLC

Chantal Decroisette, MD, Centre Léon-Bérard, Lyon, France, discusses results from the Phase III PERSEE trial (GFPC 01-2020; EudraCT 2020-002626-86), which compared first-line pembrolizumab plus platinum-based chemotherapy with pembrolizumab alone in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with high PD-L1 expression. Adding chemotherapy significantly improved progression-free survival and response rates, with a favorable but non-significant trend in overall survival. Higher rates of severe treatment-related adverse events were seen with the combination. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
