Miriam Merad, MD, PhD, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY, highlights the concept of age as a risk factor for cancer and the potential for prevention through identification of biomarkers and targets, such as increased IL-1, which can also be associated with cognitive decline and cardiovascular events. A more global approach is needed to understanding age-associated diseases, including cancer, and designing cancer trials with composite endpoints that incorporate cardiovascular events and cognitive decline will also be essential. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
