ESMO 2026 | Evaluating perioperative apalutamide and ADT with surgery in prostate cancer

Alberto Briganti, MD, Vita-Salute University San Raffaele, Milan, Italy, discusses the PROTEUS substudy (NCT03767244), which found that the use of apalutamide plus androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) nearly halved the need for subsequent therapies, including hormonal manipulation or radiation therapy, after radical prostatectomy. This treatment regimen may delay the use of subsequent therapies by approximately three years, potentially reducing treatment toxicity. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
