Academic History
Zev Wainberg, MD, MSc, is Professor of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), CA, and Co-Director of the UCLA Gastrointestinal Oncology Program. In addition, he is the Director of Early Phase Clinical Research Support and a member of the Signal Transduction and Therapeutics program. Prof. Wainberg received his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv, Israel, and subsequently completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center Moses Division Hospital, New York, NY. He then completed his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA.
Speaking on developments in gastrointestinal cancer management
Prof. Wainberg is involved in early-phase clinical trials targeting pancreatic, esophageal, gastric, colon, and related cancers. His translational research investigates the molecular characteristics of gastrointestinal cancers, including molecular profiling and gene expression studies to identify novel therapeutic targets. In addition, his research explores the biology of cancer stem cells and the development of antibody-based therapies. He also leads efforts to understand and modulate the tumor microenvironment, as well as how immunosuppression is mediated by molecules such as adenosine in pancreatic cancer.
