SABCS 2024 | Denosumab increases irAE in patients with breast cancer treated with pembrolizumab
Alexis LeVee, MD, City of Hope, Duarte, CA, comments on the findings of a study investigating the combination of denosumab with immune checkpoint inhibitors in patients with breast cancer. Dr LeVee notes that the addition of denosumab to immune checkpoint inhibitors increased the risk of immune-related adverse events (irAE) compared to patients receiving zoledronic acid or no bone-modifying agent, but showed a promising signal of better responses. However, progression-free survival and overall survival were similar, and further studies are needed to confirm these findings, particularly considering the potential synergistic effect of denosumab with immune checkpoint inhibitors.This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
