ASCO 2026 | Integrating recombinant BCG in the perioperative treatment landscape for MIBC

Richard Cathomas, MD, Cantonal Hospital Graubunden, Chur, Switzerland, discusses how recombinant BCG, as evaluated in the SAKK 06/19 study (NCT04630730), could be incorporated into the treatment landscape for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Dr Cathomas highlights the study’s favorable pathological outcomes and notes the potential to combine recombinant BCG with modern systemic therapies, such as enfortumab vedotin, to improve pathological complete response rates and expand bladder-sparing treatment options for patients. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
