IASLC TTLC 2022 | Proton therapy in thoracic cancer and mesothelioma

Charles Simone, MD, FACRO, New York Proton Center & Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, describes the advantages of proton therapy, a form of external beam radiotherapy. Whilst traditional radiotherapy delivers x-rays to the tumor and beyond, healthy tissue can be damaged as a result. Proton therapy only targets the tumors, sparing surrounding tissue and resulting in fewer side effects. In mesothelioma and thoracic cancers, proton therapy can potentially improve outcomes and reduce complications. This interview took place at the 2022 Targeted Therapies of Lung Cancer Meeting (TTLC 2022).
