WCLC 2026 | DNA-PKcs inhibition activates innate immunity in small cell lung cancer

Triparna Sen, PhD, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, discusses a preclinical study targeting DNA-PKcs, a family of DNA damage response inhibitors, in small cell lung cancer (SCLC), which is the most aggressive form of lung cancer characterized by high genomic instability. SCLC expresses the DNA-PKcs gene more than any other solid tumor and that targeting this gene with small molecule inhibitors, alone or in combination with immune checkpoint blockade, was effective in cell line and mouse models by activating the innate immune response pathway. This interview took place at the IASLC 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
