EONS 2018 | Nursing: managing and observing acutely ill patients in England

Celia Diez de los Rios, from the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Southampton, UK, provides a view from a nurse’s persepctive on the important roles played in patient care and disease management. Speaking from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2018 Congress, in Munich, Germany, Ms Diez de los Rios recognizes the value of the ‘Acute Oncology’ service in England, where nurses have key roles in providing support and advice to patients. Ms Diez de los Rios also feels the need for nurses to be empowered and suggests three main areas of focus for nurses; early recognition of symptoms, prevention, and treatment.
