Pietro Lapidari, MD, Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France, discusses musculoskeletal toxicity associated with aromatase inhibitors in patients with breast cancer, particularly postmenopausal and high-risk premenopausal patients. Almost half of patients experience toxicity, often impacting quality of life, adherence, and overall outcomes. Current management includes pharmacological options like duloxetine and non-pharmacological methods such as physical therapy and acupuncture. Switching between aromatase inhibitors may also help reduce symptoms, underscoring the need for tailored strategies to improve adherence and minimize treatment interruptions. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
