ASCO 2026 | Using ctDNA to guide adjuvant chemotherapy for colon cancer: insights from the CIRCULATE trial

Gunnar Folprecht, MD, PhD, Technical University Dresden, Dresden, Germany, discusses background and results from the CIRCULATE trial (NCT04089631), which used circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) to guide adjuvant treatment for stage II colon cancer. 41 ctDNA-positive patients were randomized to either receive chemotherapy or not. In the chemotherapy-assigned group, a recurrence rate of 19% was found, compared with 62% in the other arm. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
