Marc Mureau, MD, PhD, from Erasmus University Rotterdam, discusses the goals and importance of oncologic reconstructive surgery. This type of surgery aims to mitigate the negative effects of extensive tumor resections by improving patients’ quality of life. By restoring function and aesthetics, oncologic reconstructive surgery helps patients regain a sense of normalcy after the trauma of cancer treatment. This involves transplanting tissue from one area of the body to another, ensuring that both physical appearance and functionality are enhanced. Ultimately, the objective is to facilitate a smoother transition back to everyday life for patients undergoing these procedures. This interview took place at the ESSO 43 Congress in Antwerp, Belgium.
