ELCC 2026 | Local consolidative therapy with osimertinib: NorthStar trial background and secondary analysis
Saumil Ghandi, MD, PhD, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses the rationale and secondary analysis data from the NorthStar trial (NCT04479306), examining local consolidative therapy with radiation or surgery alongside continued treatment with osimertinib. Most patients with metastatic lung cancer with L858R or exon 19 EGFR mutations are treated initially with osimertinib, but eventually progress. The addition of local consolidative therapy prolonged the time spent on osimertinib before progression and patients without mediastinal nodes or pleural effusions derived the greatest benefit. This interview took place at the 2026 European Lung Cancer Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark.
