ESMO 2024 | Advancing multidisciplinary management of oligometastatic gastroesophageal cancer

Radka Obermannova, MD, PhD, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, highlights the significance of multidisciplinary care in a session at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress, which brought together surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, among others, to discuss the complexities of oligometastatic disease. While there is a European consensus on its definition, not all countries have accepted it. The session emphasized the need for more biomarker-oriented studies and next-generation trials to improve the understanding of the biology of oligometastatic disease and optimize treatment strategies. This interview took place at the ESMO 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
