Bertrand Tombal, MD, PhD, of Cliniques Saint-Luc University, Brussels, Belgium, emphasizes the need for a patient-centered approach for oncologists when deciding on a treatment option for cancer patients. The importance of incorporating patient expectations and experiences in a treatment decision is highlighted by Prof. Tombal at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2018 Congress, in Munich, Germany, where he also identifies approaches towards tailoring treatment decisions, hoping that in the future, subsets of patients prefering one drug over another can be identified.
