Sara Tolaney, MD, MPH, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, gives an overview of findings from trials examining checkpoint inhibitors in high-grade ER+ breast cancer, particularly data from KEYNOTE-756 (NCT03725059) and CheckMate 7FL (NCT04109066). These trials assessed adding a checkpoint inhibitor to chemotherapy in the preoperative setting, showing improved pathologic complete response (PCR) rates. Future data on event-free survival (EFS) and biomarker analysis, especially for PD-L1, are needed to guide patient selection and confirm long-term benefits. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
