WCCS 2022 | Diagnosing pigmented tumors

Richard Scolyer, BMedSci, MBBS, MD, FRCPA, FRCPath, FAHMS, Melanoma Institute Australia, Wollstonecraft, Australia, discusses the challenges associated with diagnosing pigmented tumors. Melanocytic benign nevi and melanomas can share many pathological features which can make diagnosing pigmented tumors difficult. The traditional classification of pigmented tumors of benign nevus or melanoma has recently been found to be too simplistic. An intermediate group of tumors, termed melanocytomas, has been defined which are generally benign but may spread to regional lymph nodes and rarely spread beyond the lymph nodes. This interview took place at the 18th World Congress on Cancers of the Skin (WCCS 2022) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
