WCLC 2024 | A nurse-led model of care (NL-GOMOC) for geriatric patients with lung cancer

Shalini Vinod, MBBS, MD, University of New South Wales, Liverpool, Australia, discusses the implementation and evaluation of a nurse-led geriatric oncology model of care (NL-GOMOC) for older patients with lung cancer, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The NL-GOMOC improved the rate of geriatric assessments, identifying key issues like polypharmacy, cognitive deficits, and depression. This model significantly increased patient satisfaction and ensured timely, holistic management. Future evaluations will assess the model’s long-term feasibility, acceptability, and cost-effectiveness. This interview took place at the 2024 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in San Diego, CA.
