Allison Betof Warner, MD, PhD, Stanford Medicine, discusses a study of 96 patients across 10 international centers who were treated with checkpoint blockade prior to and after tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) therapy. While only 7 patients responded to rechallenge, the findings suggest that checkpoint blockade after TILs is safe, with no increased or unexpected toxicity. The results highlight the need to include patients who do not respond to TILs in refractory cancer trials, offering new avenues for treatment in these challenging cases. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
