ESMO 2024 | MSI as a key immunotherapy biomarker in colon cancer
Myriam Chalabi, MD, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands, highlights how microsatellite instability (MSI) has emerged as a critical biomarker in colon cancer, yielding unprecedented immunotherapy response rates of 98-100% in both metastatic and early-stage settings. While MSI-high and MMR-deficient (dMMR) tumors have shown remarkable responses, the challenge remains in identifying biomarkers for MMR-proficient and MSS tumors. Dr Chalabi underscores the importance of improving patient selection and tailoring treatments, whether through immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or alternative approaches, based on biomarker profiles. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
