ESMO 2024 | Advancing neoadjuvant immunotherapy in dMMR deficient colon cancer

Myriam Chalabi, MD, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands, comments on the promising results of neoadjuvant immunotherapy in patients with MMR-deficient (dMMR) colon cancer. While various trials show high rates of pathological complete responses, there are still unanswered questions about the optimal treatment duration and the need for combination therapies. Whilst the NICHE-2 trial (NCT03026140) trial demonstrated 100% disease-free survival (DFS), regulatory hurdles and the need for broader acceptance of immunotherapy as the standard of care within the oncology community remain key challenges. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
