Sara Lonardi, MD, Veneto Institute of Oncology, Padua, Italy, comments on the standard use of immunotherapies in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, with pembrolizumab being a long-standing option. However, the combination of nivolumab (anti-PD-1) and ipilimumab (anti-CTLA-4) may offer improved outcomes. The CheckMate 8HW (NCT04008030) trial will provide more insight into the effects of nivolumab and ipilimumab when used separately, and further randomized data will help determine whether monotherapy or combinatorial therapy is more effective. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
