Abhenil Mittal, MBBS, NOSM University, Sudbury, Canada, comments on the importance of considering factors beyond survival data when evaluating the benefits of immune checkpoint inhibitors, including their impact on toxicity, quality of life, and whether the measured endpoints are relevant to curing patients with early-stage disease. While the trials assessed in the study met the threshold for meaningful clinical benefit, many had higher acute toxicity and persistent endocrine or related toxicities, and lacked adequate quality of life reporting. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
