ESMO GI 2026 | Predictors of early recurrence after perioperative FLOT in gastric cancer

Silvio Ken Garattini, MD, Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Friuli Centrale, Udine, Italy, Explores findings from the AIR-FLOT study, a retrospective multicenter analysis identifying clinical and pathological predictors of early recurrence after perioperative chemotherapy in resectable gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer. Elevated baseline carcinoembryonic antigen, poor postoperative performance status, and advanced tumor stage were independently associated with earlier relapse, while completing all chemotherapy cycles and nodal response were favorable factors. A composite prognostic score showed strong discriminative ability, supporting its potential use in risk-adapted treatment planning. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancer 2026 Congress in Munich, Germany.
