GU Cancers 2025 | The future of biomarkers in renal cell carcinoma

Simpa Salami, MD, MPH, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, discusses optimism around the development of biomarkers for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Significant progress has been made in the identification of key predictive biomarkers of kidney cancer, including those related to recurrence, progression, recurrence-free survival (RFS), disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Whilst these have not translated in to clinical practice, current technology, techniques and expertise is facilitating progress in the development of biomarkers, with the potential for use clinically. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
