WCLC 2026 | ctDNA and ctRNA for the detection of actionable fusions in NSCLC

Chinmay Jani, MD, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Miami, FL, explores utilization of liquid biopsy with both ctDNA and ctRNA platforms for the detection of actionable fusions in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The addition of ctRNA increased detection of fusions by 38.7% and this effect was consistent across men and women. Current guidelines recommend next generation sequencing (NGS) for tissue and liquid biopsy at diagnosis and if no alterations are detected, then ctRNA detection can be included. Dr Jani highlights that ctDNA should always be utilized for detection of alterations, but that ctRNA can be used in addition to enhance detection in certain cases. This interview took place at the IASLC 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
